NOTES: Nestled at the foot of Spring Mountain, the Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard was planted in 2001. Named for the little pebbles that characterize the site, this vineyard is renowned for its muscular, mineral-driven Cabernet Sauvignon wines. The site’s combination of sunshine and rocky soils yields wines with an incredible interplay of pure fruit, lush tannins, and minerality.
The vineyard has a flat topography (0-5% slope) with eastern and western exposure. The soil is composed of gravelly, alluvial soils; cortina and bale loam. Clone 4 is selected, planted in 2001 on rootstock 110r with vertical shoot positioning, bilateral cordon.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon hand-harvested at night, with shears only. Grapes are hand-sorted while still cold from the field. Fermented in small, closed-top stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. 5 day cold soak, 31 day total maceration. Gentle pumpovers and délestage. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged 20 months in French oak barrels; 93% new from selected coopers: Darnajou, Taransaud, Boutes, Leroi, Baron. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
