NOTES: Located just five miles from the Pacific Ocean and at 550 feet above sea level, the Goldrock Estate is a singular vineyard. Situated above the fog line atop the second coastal mountain ridge, it endures cool maritime conditions that yield taut, energetic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. This site remains one of the most sought-after vineyards on the Western Sonoma Coast.
Composed of 43.6 planted acres, the Goldrock Estate vineyard was planted in 2005 on Goldridge fine sandy loam soil with full exposure and gently undulating slopes from 5 to 23 percent. The Pinot Noir vines are a mix of clones 114, 777, and 828. Vines are trained in bilateral cane.
Hand-harvested at night using shears only, the fruit is hand-sorted while still cold from the field; with about 15% whole cluster inclusion. Indigenous yeast fermentation. 5-day cold soak, 17-day maceration. Gentle punchdowns. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged 15 months in French oak barrels; about 30% new from select coopers (Cadus, Louis Latour, Leroi, Damy, François Frères, Taransaud). Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
